Movable, fixed and dual signs meaning in Vedic astrology

Also called: chara, sthira, dwiswabhava, sign quality

Definition

Movable, fixed and dual signs are the three types (qualities) every sign belongs to, describing whether a sign tends toward movement, stability or a mix of both.

Movable (chara) signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn; their nature is to move and be dynamic. Fixed (sthira) signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius; their nature is to be stable and constant. Dual (dwiswabhava) signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces; they are stable sometimes and dynamic sometimes.

The pattern repeats through the zodiac in order: movable, fixed, dual, movable, fixed, dual, and so on.
