Saturn enters Aries (Jun 2027)

Read the timeline above. Saturn enters Aries on 3 June 2027, turns retrograde (appearing to move backwards) on 10 August 2027, slips back into Pisces on 20 October 2027, turns direct (moving forward again) on 24 December 2027, and re-enters Aries on 23 February 2028.

Aries is the 1st sign of the zodiac, a fire sign and a movable sign, and its lord is Mars.

Saturn is debilitated in Aries, deepest at 20°, according to Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS, R. Santhanam's translation) ch. 3 and PVR's Table 6. Mars, the lord of Aries, is one of Saturn's natural enemies in PVR's Table 7.

PVR (P.V.R. Narasimha Rao, author of Vedic Astrology: An Integrated Approach) offers an analogy for dignity: the own sign is like home, the exaltation sign like a favourite party or picnic, and the debilitation sign like being stuck at a place one hates.

The count uses whole-sign houses: the sign of your reference point is the 1st house, the next sign the 2nd, and so on. PVR (§25.3) writes: 'We can see which house a planet is transiting in, with respect to natal lagna, and expect the planet to influence the matters of that house.'

Walk through two rows of the grid. For Cancer ascendant (lagna), Aries is the 10th sign counted from Cancer, so Saturn sits in the 10th house. For Pisces, Aries is the 2nd sign, so it sits in the 2nd house.

The same count works from the janma rasi, the sign holding the Moon at birth (your moon sign). PVR (§25.2) and B.V. Raman (ch. 34) both count transits this way.

Aspects (graha drishti, planetary sight) follow BPHS ch. 26. Every planet aspects the 7th sign from itself; Mars also the 4th and 8th, Jupiter also the 5th and 9th, and Saturn also the 3rd and 10th, per BPHS ch. 26.

So Saturn in Aries casts its 3rd aspect on Gemini, its 7th on Libra and its 10th on Capricorn.

PVR (§25.3) adds: 'We can also look at the aspects cast by transiting planets.' PVR reads the aspected houses along with the occupied one.

PVR (§25.2) is explicit about this: standard transit results 'are given only for reference. In reality, not everyone with the same janma rasi experiences the same results', and 'The results given by planets depend on what they stand for in the natal chart.'

B.V. Raman, author of Hindu Predictive Astrology, agrees: 'There is no denying the fact that the birth horoscope directly affects Gochara results.' (Gochara means transit.) Raman's ch. 34 also notes: 'The triennial results may be ascertained from Saturn'.
