Tithi meaning in the panchang: lunar day

Thirty tithis fill a lunar month: fifteen in shukla paksha ending in purnima and fifteen in krishna paksha ending in amavasya. Because the Moon's speed varies, a tithi is not a fixed 24 hour day.
