Your appetite is growing louder

You feel it when you look at your account, or when someone asks what you want. The numbers used to sit there, neutral. Now they pull at you. There is heat behind what you value — not just money, but time, loyalty, the things you have convinced yourself you need.

This is a season of wanting more, and wanting it now.

The patience you usually keep around spending, around saving face, around saying later — it is thinner. You see something and you feel the yes in your chest before your mind catches up. Sometimes that is clarity. Sometimes it is just urgency wearing clarity's clothes. You are learning to tell the difference in real time, which means sometimes you get it wrong.

Your voice carries more weight now too. What you say about what you want — to a partner, to a boss, to yourself — lands differently. People hear the hunger. Some are drawn to it. Others pull back, unsure if they can match it. You may notice yourself speaking louder, or else swallowing words you would have once let out, not sure if they are fair or just fierce.

There is a push from somewhere else in your life, a distant but steady pressure. Work, or the shape of your days, keeps asking for proof that this wanting leads somewhere. You feel caught between the comfort of what you have built and the restlessness of what you have not yet claimed. The career questions, the purpose questions — they do not let you sink fully into pure appetite. They want a plan. You do not always have one.

And beneath that, something older stirs. The way you have always handled change, handled loss, handled the moments when life strips you bare — that pattern is up for review. You may find yourself spending to fill a hole you cannot name, or clinging to something out of fear rather than love. The line between security and self-deception is blurrier than you wish.

Money moves faster now. Or it wants to. The temptation is to expand — the budget, the commitment, the story you tell about what is possible. There is real generosity in this, a capacity to give and to receive that has been dormant. But there is also inflation, the risk of making things bigger than they are, of promising more than you can sustain.

With someone else in the room — a partner, a rival, a mirror — the heat intensifies. You may find yourself competing without meaning to, or defending territory you did not know you had staked. Shared resources, shared values, the silent negotiations of intimacy — all of it feels more charged. You want to be met. You do not want to be controlled.

This is not a test of discipline exactly. It is more like a test of honesty about what actually feeds you.

You do not need to shrink your wants. But you might need to slow down enough to feel which ones belong to you, and which ones you inherited, or borrowed, or reached for in a moment of emptiness. The practice is simple and hard: before the yes, a breath. Before the spend, a question. Not to kill the impulse, but to meet it.
