Moon sign meaning in Vedic astrology: your Janma Rashi

Also called: Vedic moon sign, Janma Rashi

Definition

Moon sign is the sign the Moon was in when you were born.

The Moon moves fast: it changes sign every two to three days, so the moon sign can often be worked out from the birth date alone.

In Jyotish conversation, the Sanskrit name 'Janma Rashi' (birth sign) often refers to the Moon's sidereal sign.

Why does it matter so much? P.V.R. Narasimha Rao's textbook notes that the Moon governs the mind, and some dasha systems (planetary period systems) are computed from the Moon's nakshatra, the lunar mansion it occupies.
