Whole-sign houses meaning in Vedic astrology

Also called: whole sign, rasi-based houses

Definition

Whole-sign houses is a house system in which each sign of the zodiac is one entire house, starting from the sign holding the ascendant.

In whole-sign houses, the sign holding the ascendant (lagna, the sign rising at your birth) is the entire 1st house, the next sign is the 2nd, and so on. For example, with the lagna in Cancer, the 2nd house is Leo and the 12th is Gemini.

This differs from Western astrology, which typically uses systems like Placidus or Koch with unequal houses, so a planet can fall in a different numbered house depending on the system.

Skybond uses whole-sign houses.
